Popular contemporary artists, Peter and Jayne Smith, will be appearing at a Cardiff gallery next weekend to showcase their latest collection, Eccentricus Britannicus.
Local art fans can meet the husband and wife duo at Castle Fine Art in St David’s Dewi Sant on Sunday 24th March, from 1pm-3pm. An exhibition of the works will then run for a further week.
Peter and Jayne’s latest release is their most raucous collection to date. A humorous culmination of Victorian imagery, reinvented literature and adult jokes, it features famous British icons such as Sherlock Holmes, Punch and Judy and Bassetts Liquorice Allsorts.
As part of the meet the artist event, Peter and Jayne will be releasing an exclusive remarqued edition of their painting titled Doctor Whowhoo and the Planet of Crapcomicon, and for each one purchased, Peter will personally hand-paint the buyer’s chosen characters into their piece.
Originally from Mansfield, Nottingham, Peter Smith is a self-taught artist whose background in the fashion, media and advertising industries feeds into his artwork.
Alongside his wife Jayne, he is best known as the creator of one of the UK's most collectable artwork brands – the famous striped rotund characters called the Impossimals® and Lost Impossimals. The distinctive style and off-the-wall humour, coupled with unusual titles, has made the Impossimals® into one of the most recognisable and collected style of limited edition art and sculpture today.
