20:30

Release Date: 25 Oct 2018

Director: George A. Romero

Cast: Duane Jones

Celebrate 50 years of Living Dead by seeing the completely restored and remastered version of Night of the Living Dead in cinemas. The iconic film that started the zombie genre and shaped modern horror movies as we know and love them today. Directed by horror legend, George A. Romero, the film is a great story of independent cinema: a midnight hit turned box-office smash that became one of the most influential films of all time. A deceptively simple tale of a group of strangers trapped in a farmhouse who find themselves fending off a horde of recently dead, flesh-eating ghouls. Romero's claustrophobic vision of a late-1960s America literally tearing itself apart rewrote the rules of the horror genre, combined gruesome gore with acute social commentary, and quietly broke ground by casting a black actor (Duane Jones) in its lead role. For this special 50th anniversary event, audiences can see the stunning restoration of Night of the Living Dead, a product of the original filmmakers' collaborating with the Museum of Modern Art and the George Lucas Family Foundation to restore the film from the original camera negative. The remastered version is more visually striking and terrifying than ever. If you haven't seen this film in cinemas, you haven't truly seen Night of the Living Dead as it was intended: in a dark cinema, on the big screen.

But in the seventh year of the siege of Troy their innocence is tested, and exposed to the savage corrupting influence of war, with tragic consequences. Troilus is much distracted from these military concerns by his love for Cressida, the daughter of a Trojan who has defected to the Greek camp. The young lovers are eagerly assisted by Cressida's uncle Pandarus, who acts as their go-between. However, after only one night together they are parted when Cressida is sent to join her father in the Greek camp. New Met Music Director Yannick Nezet-Seguin launches his tenure by conducting Verdi's timeless tragedy. Worldly courtesan Violetta, sung by soprano Diana Damrau, has grown tired of her dissolute life. When the pure-hearted Alfredo—tenor Juan Diego Florez—declares his love for her, she leaves everything behind to live with him. But his family's reputation is ruined by his association with her, and Violetta is torn between her feelings for Alfredo and her desire to protect him from scandal. Urged by the young man's father, she tears herself away and returns to her old life. Alfredo, not knowing the real reason for her apparent betrayal, is heartbroken—and bent on revenge. Directed by Michael Mayer, this new production features a dazzling eighteenth-century setting that changes with the seasons.
